Wang Jianlin

An American teen on a movie date probably has little clue that the AMC theater he or she sits in is Chinese property. Wang Jianlin, China’s second-richest man, acquired AMC in May 2012 and plans to break ground in 2016 on Chicago’s third-tallest skyscraper, tentatively called the Wanda Vista, which will reconfigure the skyline of that major U.S. city. It’s only a matter of time before the real estate tycoon opens his wallet again for yet another slice of Americana.
